THE Black Hole Symphony
Duration: ±2h (incl. 20min interval)
Linder Auditorium - November 27th to 29th
Johannesburg, South Africa
The Black Hole Symphony is a new show where we finally explore what a performance with an orchestra would look like — something we and our audience have been dreaming about for a long time.
Performed by a 32-piece string orchestra from the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra (JPO), the production features Yash’s powerful compositions — both iconic and new — with him at the helm on the grand piano. Paired with cinematic visuals crafted specifically for each movement, the result is a deeply immersive journey through sound, story, and science.
Across six movements, the symphony traces the story of black holes: from the priest who first imagined them, to their role in the creation of life, and the secrets they may hold for unlocking time itself. With the beauty of a philharmonic, this show celebrates the music — letting it carry you through space on a cushion of awe and wonder.
FAQ’S
-
Simply put, no. While it shares some familiar elements, The Black Hole Symphony explores new stories about black holes and places a stronger emphasis on music and visuals.
Universe on Stage began because of black holes — in fact, one is part of our logo. The first image of a black hole inspired Luca to tell its story differently, through emotion — and that became Hidden Giants, first performed three years ago this November.
The Black Hole Symphony is, in many ways, an homage to that beginning — and a celebration of our third birthday.
